Snoring is an all too common issue, affecting at least 40% of the population. While generally not an issue for the person snoring, it can be an annoyance to those you’re sleeping with. It can also be a cause for embarrassment. Managing your snoring is important and there are plenty of little changes you can make which may help you improve your night’s sleep and get over your snoring problem.


It is very difficult, if not impossible, to stop snoring completely. To reduce snoring, try these tricks :


  • Avoiding smoking. Reducing snoring is all to do with open airways so anything that blocks or slows the air flow is best avoided.
  • Nasal sprays or strips. In a similar vein, anything that can open up the airways can help reduce snoring. These are available over the counter and can be a good solution to reduce snoring
  • Change your sleep position. Sleeping on your side can help reduce snoring by relieving pressure on your airways.   • Wedge yourself up.  If side sleeping is not an option, try raising your head to promote better air flow. There are a variety of different pillows available for this and you could even try a cushion on a pillow. While not the same thing, it does create a natural wedge to provide a bit of height for your head.
  • Manage your sleep pattern. A regular sleep pattern is hard to keep nowadays but it has a variety of health benefits. It also stops you from being overtired, something that can lead to snoring. Making sure you get enough sleep, ironically, can be crucial to a good night’s sleep.
